Elder Response Initiative 

Program Manager- North Carolina

​

Brief Description:

​

For The Struggle, Inc. seeks an experienced, dynamic, and motivated Program Manager- North Carolina to lead our Elder Response Initiative, inclusive of our new Home Modification Program. This role is intricate to assisting senior citizens with obtaining free home modifications and repairs, estate planning, property tax relief assistance and more. This role will primarily oversee the coordination and implementation of services that assist seniors in modifying and repairing their homes to enhance accessibility, safety, and independence. The successful candidate will work closely with senior citizens, executive staff, a licensed Occupational Therapist, contractors, the Senior Intake Specialist and a variety of service providers to ensure the program’s goals are met effectively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

​

  • Lead and manage all aspects of education, outreach, and marketing for the Home Modification and Repair Programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.

  • Verify income and conduct first round of approving senior citizens’ applications to ensure all qualifications are met prior to proceeding with modifications and/or repairs at a home. 

  • Perform assessments and scopes of work at homes when there is an overflow or backlog of assessments that the Occupational Therapist cannot get to within a reasonable amount of time. 

  • Perform on-site monitoring at homes where the Occupational Therapist prepared assessments and scopes of work. 

  • Work with contractors to ensure projects are completed efficiently and pursuant to applicable codes and standards of conduct. 

  • Provide education and guidance to seniors and families regarding available services, eligibility, and process.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists, architects, and contractors, to deliver comprehensive services.

  • Manage program data, track and report on program outcomes, adjusting strategies as needed to meet objectives and improve services.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Elder Response Initiative program.

 

 

Qualifications:

​

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field, such as occupational therapy, housing rehabilitation, aging-in-place modifications, or other work related to home modification and accessibility/services for senior citizens. 

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including developing project plans, managing budgets, and ensuring successful program implementation.

  • Demonstrated experience in creating education, marketing and outreach strategies to reach vulnerable populations. 

  • Knowledge of relevant standards and best practices in home modification, accessibility, and aging-in-place solutions.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, contractors, and external partners effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations, seniors, and professionals.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel often between multiple counties.

Requirements:

​

  • Resides in Charlotte-Mecklenburg or surrounding areas. 

  • Degree or certification in occupational therapy, housing rehabilitation/modification, or a related field.

  • Must have taken or be willing to take CAPs (Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist). 

  • Must be able to utilize Home For Life Assessment Tool. 

  • Experience working with senior citizens. 

  • Familiarity with local housing and zoning regulations related to home modifications.

  • Reliable transportation and ability/willingness to travel frequently.
